Will Amiquell Use Result in a Positive Test?

AmiQuell does contain "herbal" type ingredients--one, or more, of which may catch the attention of USEF regulators.  Various forms of licorice have been popular and useful components in many of the non-drug, gastro support products on the market today.  USEF has previously cautioned against the use of products containing licorice because licorice may contain Eugenol, a banned substance that USEF may claim to have anti-inflammatory properties.

To read what USEF has stated in the past with regard to herbal ingredients, please click here.

We maintain that the Deglycyrrhized Licorice (DGL) that we are using in our AmiQuell product is a "Eugenol-Free" material.  Based on this, it is our contention that this product should not test positive.  Still, the USEF has indicated that they will incorporate "new methods" into their battery of screening tests--a "deliberate an ongoing process".  Certainly, it is all but impossible to know the testing measures, etc. as the sanctioning body logically wishes to keep them a secret...

Given the nature of products relying upon herbal ingredients we might suggest that those competing at the highest levels of equestrian sport give very careful consideration to the ingredient list.  If you have any cause for concern we suggest that you consider the withdrawal of the AmiQuell product at least 28 days prior to competition.

You may then also consider the use of a simple buffer type product (Calcium and Magnesium) through the end of the competition.  This type of product offers no risk of a positive test.  HorseTech offers a product of this type; Ca-Mg Buffer.  To read more about our Ca-Mg Buffer, or to order, click here!

We know of some USEF competitors that will, simply as a precaution, remove products containing novel/herbal ingredients from the diet approximately 10-14 days prior to competition.  If you have questions with regard to the use of our AmiQuell, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-831-3309--we'd be happy to visit with you in this regard!
