Juliet M. Getty, Ph.D.
Equine Nutritionist

Dr. Juliet M. Getty earned her Master of Science degree in Animal Nutrition at the University of Florida.  She
completed her doctoral coursework in Animal Nutrition at the University of Georgia, and continued her studies at the University
of North Texas, where she earned her Ph.D.

Winner of several teaching awards, Dr. Getty has taught comparative nutrition studies at the University of North Texas
for 20 years. At the same time, she has been working in the field, consulting privately with horse owners to assist with
developing diets and nutritional interventions for a variety of health conditions.

Recently retired from academia, she now resides in Colorado, where she devotes herself full-time to equine nutrition.
Her work and her passion is to improve the lives of horses by helping their owners gain a better understanding of how and what
to feed their equine friends.  Dr. Getty has her own consulting company, Getty Equine Nutrition, where she visits with horse owners,
both locally and via phone consultations throughout the country and internationally.  Dr. Getty also helps clients
make appropriate supplement choices in order to avoid nutrient gaps and overlaps in the diet.

The focus is on feeding in sync with a horse’s natural digestive needs. Dr. Getty works closely with veterinarians to provide
nutritional support in order to expedite healing. Several veterinarians, with an interest in nutrition, have commended Dr. Getty on
her realisitic understanding of how proper feeding helps horses stay healthy. In particular, she has helped educate clients on ways to
prevent laminitis, colic, and obesity.

As an expert in the field, Dr. Juliet M. Getty strives to bring a fresh perspective to the area of horse nutrition.  Her
goal is to provide up-to-date information, practical advice, and simplicity to an often complicated and confusing topic.  She enjoys
interacting with horse owners who love and respect horses for who they are – amazing creatures with big hearts and a
sensitive nature.  In addition to private consultations, Dr. Getty is an expert resident on www.NaturalHorsePeople.com, a worldwide
horseowners' community.

Dr. Getty has been interviewed for several articles in popular magazines including Horse Illustrated, Equus, and Trailblazer and has contributed articles in Equine
Wellness Magzine and in a soon-to-be released book, The Ultimate Horse Lover. She is currently writing a book that addresses common feeding
problems that horse owners experience. Her topics are based on the types of questions she receives every day on her "Ask the Nutritionist " forum.
This free forum allows horse owners to write in questions about how to feed their horses for specific needs. Conditions such as insulin resitance, obesity, laminitis,
underweight, old age, pregnancy, growth, and arthritis, to name a few, are brought up in her forum. These health conditions are described in detail, along with the feeding
recommendations, in her upcoming book. Case studies are also provided, to illustrate how her advice has made dramatic changes in her
horse-clients' lives. Horseowners will find this book an invaluable reference for all life stages and conditions that their horses experience.
